sampling
isolation
incubation (3h)
analysis
Results in just 3 hours from isolated bacteria.
Option to start directly from a primary sample under evaluation.
Direct contact between bacterium and antibiotic.
True measurement of growth inhibition (direct functional test).
More effective than indirect approaches (molecular biology, proteomics).
Avoids empiric use of high-dose broad-spectrum antibiotic regimens.
Reduces ineffective treatments, helping to lower the risk of antimicrobial resistance development.
Essential in severe infections.
à TESTING OF SYNERGISTIC COMBINATIONS
Enables rapid identification of antibiotic combinations with enhanced activity.
A powerful tool to optimize treatment strategies in complex or refractory infections.
à NEW DRUGS FAST SCREENING
Quickly assesses the real antimicrobial potential of novel molecules.
Provides early functional insights, accelerating the development pipeline.
Ideal for prioritizing promising candidates and reducing time‑to‑clinic.

Using seven antibiotics (amoxicillin/ clavulanic acid, cefepime, cefotaxime, ceftazidime, ciprofloxacin, gentamicin, levofloxacin, and meropenem) tested against Enterobacteriaceae (Escherichia Coli/Klebsiella Pneumoniae), SmartAST showed overall Essential Agreement (EA) and Category Agreement (CA) above 90%, minor errors (mE) below 10%, and major errors (ME) and very major errors (VME) below 3%.
